Exploratorium Academy Incorporated is a Professional Learning Community - Private High School serving students in grades 7-12. Additionally the foundation provides educational opportunities for adult learners to complete their High School Diploma. Exploratorium Academy does not offer GED’s; all graduates earn and receive a high school diploma. Exploratorium Academy holds academic accreditation with The National Private School’s Accreditation Alliance. January 2007 officially announced the 10th year that Exploratorium Academy has been an accredited and acknowledged high school in the State of Alabama. In December 2006, Exploratorium entered its early implementation phase towards securing SACS (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools) accreditation.
The benefits of this school and its program(s) are the short weekly schedule: Monday – Thursday from 5:45pm to 9:00pm and 9:00a.m.-2100p.m. one Saturday a month, a 12:1 student teacher ratio, certified instruction, and strategically based instructional frames that guide the student’s teaching and learning outcomes. In short, Exploratorium Academy offers year-round classes allowing students to earn credit(s) towards any deficient academic year(s). Special population classes are provided on Saturdays from 2:00pm to 5:30pm for students who qualify.
More specifically there are:
- No pre and post evaluations. All students are assessed at the time of their performance(s). Students are challenged daily in efforts of meeting both State and National Academic Standards and Curriculum Strands.
- NO GRADUATION EXAM is required for exiting Exploratorium’s program with a fully accredited high school diploma. The assessment module used is a portfolio-styled performance based evaluation.
- Students are evaluated on their individual work efforts and practices. Students are only allowed to earn A’s and B’s (C’s, D’s, and F’s are not allowed). Students must master their core assignments as a provision of remaining in the program. Student’s work is returned to them for a re-submission in efforts of securing passing grades and mastery learning.
- The entire curriculum consists of core-academic disciplines. Exploratorium does not offer any extra curricular activities. However, we will partner with other agencies should there be a high volume need for this service.
- Exploratorium Academy advocates the highest caliber of student discipline and culture.
The organizational structure of The Hill & Lowe Foundation has been authentically postured by its President/Founder - Dr. Mary Hill Lowe, Ed.S., Ed.D. Additionally, Dr. Mary Hill Lowe serves as Director of Programs for Exploratorium Academy Incorporated. Dr. Lowe, a mother, wife, and Christian Educator of over 39 years experience founded The Hill & Lowe Foundation in Montgomery on August 9, 2006. The professional practices of this organization among its educational entities are: Education-Accountability-Leadership. Dr. Lowe, through faith and her applied practice(s) feels than within a controlled educational environment structured by; discipline, moral, Christian values, quality educational programs, self-esteem, and culture, governed with and by direct supervision there can be a favorable outcome which is a self-assured and educationally proficient student and adult individual.
The employees and teachers associated with The Hill & Lowe Foundation in cooperation with Exploratorium Academy hold the highest educational talents and academic credentials. Dr. Mary Hill Lowe holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Bethune-Cookman College, a Master’s Degree in Adult Education from Florida A&M University, and both Florida’s and Alabama’s Certification in Teacher Education. Dr. Lowe also holds and Education Specialist Degree in General Education from Troy University Montgomery with AA-Certification in Elementary Education. Dr. Lowe has been awarded AA-Certification in Education Administration from Alabama State University. Dr. Lowe received her Educational Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale/Miami Florida. Most recently Dr. Lowe completed 18 state approved hours in Educational Library Media from Alabama State University.
Among the collaborative talents of her sons Dr. Melvin-Alonza Lowe III, and Mr. Marvin-Alexander Lowe, Ed.S. (pending Ed.D. graduation) both affiliations with Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale/Miami Florida – Atlanta Georgia Campus. Dr. Mary Hill Lowe and her current husband Dr. William Marshall Clark, Ph.D. – Michigan State University who serves as Coordinator of Programs along with the certified staff provides quality educational programs to students and adult learners.
The best practice frames that are facilitated through this organization include the following: daily progress reports, Structured curriculum based teaching and learning activities, projects and performance based assignments, a 100% total engagement practice per the student’s performance efforts, and 100% parental involvement component.
The Board of Directors have outlined a professional practice that offers equitable growth opportunities to every learner.
